Also with photoshop (or elements) you can set up a batch process or "droplet" to do loads of files and then just leave it running in the background
my "prepare for web" droplet goes : open file, duplicate, resize to 800x600 (assuming its a landscape format pic - i have a seperate droplet for portrait), resave at quality 7 in location x - the files output from this are ideal for wab and also for use on my own website or whatever.
then the only manual thing you have to do is the wab upload and titling which doesnt take long at all. | I agree eeyore but 5 is the limit not 10 |

I submit alot to microstock agencies, so I'm used to resizing, retitling, keywording etc., and use batch proceses in lightroom to prepare them for upload.
I have to say 20 minutes a day merely to upload only few photos is actually quite alot. For one-off uploads, and established members toping up their image Gallery, maybe it's ok, but consider the situation for someone new to the site having say 200 of their favourite shots they want to upload. They are staring down the barrel of a good few hours of faff, spread over a few weeks, just to do that. Perhaps uploading to the image library would be quicker. I'll give it a go.
After 20 minutes fiddling around on the site earlier tonight, scratching my head and trying to find an explanation of how it works, I gave up and started this thread instead. I think it would really help if there were a clear link from the image page, to some form of upload guide. It's possible to arive at the site and navigate to the image upload page, and start uploading, without ever seeing such a link.
I'm sorry to whinge so much, I guess I'm just venting my frustration! Quote:

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering The settings that I use for raw file conversion produce images that are suitable for upload to the web and to the image library or Gallery. It's rare that I'll need a larger image for any purpose but if I do it's easy enough to go back and carry out the conversion again.
As for naming and keywording that is all done as part of the upload process and you don't need to alter the keywords stored with the pictures on your computer.
I upload to the image library, as others have said, so that I can get ID on stuff and share images in posts. I upload to the Gallery so that I can give something back for the help and advice I receive. The Gallery pictures help others to identify wildlife and I take it as a compliment that some of my images are good enough to be used for this purpose. There's a certain satisfaction in knowing that, with my limited knowledge of wildlife, I am able to contribute to one of the best, if not the best, on line identification resources in the UK.

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering Have I missed something regards the resizing?
Is it not simply a case of using Picasa, selecting the images, exporting and choosing the size. Then they are all exported to one file.
How long does that take?
I reckon for me to select 20 images and resize in this fashion takes less time than to type this post

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering This resizing business can get to be a bit of a pain.
I sometimes end up with 3/4 different sizes of the same shot - if I can be bovvered Forum/printing/stock/college etc
I only ever put on the library here (they're the same size to a photographic forum I go on) as it appears the Gallery images are a similar size to stock images (only the criteria is not as tough) and that's where the big sizes go to - if they're spot on enough.
I also keep RAW format and TIF besides the jpgs so sometimes I can have 6/7 versions of one image. It's a good job I'm ruthless when I'm chucking out ! LOL
Also - although droplets, using the method Eeyore suggested, are handy that would only work his way if you hadn't cropped any to non-standard ratio.
Ah - the long lost days of just posting a few 'snapshots' on my first forum!!
As regards time - I suppose it all depends on how careful, with a view to detail, you are in selecting/processing/ saving different formats/sizing your images - the more you learn the more complicated it gets!! LOL
On some important images I can sometimes spend over 1/2 hour deciding on a final crop (going and making brews in between) and then change my mind!!! Sometimes if I'm vacillating (ooh er missus) I wait and ask for other opinions and it can take days!!!
It's good that one has the option to post on the library or Gallery though - although I suppose no-one ever sees my images if they happen to look at my profile!

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering Also my interpretation is that the Gallery isn't really there to showcase an individual's work, but to illustrate wildlife (frequently very beautifully) for people to learn from. As I see it you should really only upload photographs to the Gallery if you geniunely feel that they add to the existing stock for the relevant species.
Maybe this would help you narrow down the selection of photographs you'd want to add? |

| | | Re: WAB image requirements completeley bewildering People can see all your photos in the Image Library if they want to.
Look at the top of this page at the title bar and on the far right you'll find... "Images"
Click on that and that takes you to the Image Library.
The look down from the top title bar until you come to the next one down. On the right of that you have four links... Home Search Profile Upload Photo.
Click on the Search link.
Then fill in the Search by Username box with the Username whose photos you want to view and hit the return button on your keyboard.
That's it!
