How to get hits on Zenfolio

Hello,I am very close to taking a leap of faith,and starting up a website using zenfolio.I was a bit surprised to google Wildlife photography/ photographer and not get any returns for zenfolio users ? I was hoping it would share my photos with a much wider audience,and in so get feedback,to help me improve,meet new friends with simular interests,and possably even sell the odd print.I like the look of Zenfolio,and it is apparently fairly easy to use,and reasonably priced,and a fairly theft proof place to show my photos,all that I want,except it seems to lack the ability to promote my photos to a bigger audience.So is there away to encourage visitors to ready made websites like Zenfolio ?

Must admit this was one of my concerns when I switched my web site to Zenfolio.

I still aren't getting the number of visitors I would like or was getting with my previous site although the monthly visitor count is slowly but surely rising.

I would suggest if you do sign up one of the things you can do is put as many links to other nature photographers sites on your Zenfolio site as you can. Not just other Zenfolio users but other hosts as well.

I would also suggest that if you do sign up for a site that you also sign up to Google Analytics (it's free) via Zenfolio as this will give you much more in depth detail of the number of visitors you are receiving to your site and where from plus lots more useful information.

Also buy your own name dot com and get it linked to zenfolio then you can make your own business cards - plus when you give folks your name they will be able to find your site that way too .........

I get very few visitors - and I suspect quite a few the ones I have had are my family

. Certainly my Flickr site gets many times more. However, I like the way I can arrange my photos on my zenfolio site... and perhaps one day the visitors will come! Not overly bothered, though. Need to add more stuff to it too really.

Good advice Roger - not considered that.

Zenfolio do say they are looking into this ' problem ' and do have some plans for the near future to make our sites show up in more search engines so hang in there

Meanwhile you could check this out photolinks.com , its free to register and all they ask is you put a link back to them on your site,your site will then show up on the likes of google and usually in the top 10 searches!

I used 1 and 1 intenet who are also my web host but there are tons of others - just google "domain name registration" expect to pay arround a fiver - if they want to charge more than that its a rip off

it would be worth checking if you can do it through zenfolio

I use godaddy, an american firm. great for having your mail etc set up too. Very user friendly interfaces and easy to set up your own site with something like their Website Tonight service. 24 hour support (you dial a London number but speak to someone in the States) They even retrospectively reimbursed me on services that I was not making use of.

I find them faultless
