Insurance for photographic equipment

Hi all,

I'm looking for a reliable company to insure my camera and lenses. The market leader in England seems to be Photoguard. Does anyone have any experience of this company or any other that you could recommend?

I`ve gone through this recently and mine equipment is insured under my home contents insurance....at NO extra cost !!....and valued at £17,500-00.

I investigated this a little while ago and also found that my home contents insurer (Select&Protect) would cover all of my equipment when abroad or in the field so there was no need to have a special policy covering it They're not the cheapest insurer out there but they came on recommendation and I think you get what you pay for these days.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out your recommendations. My home insurance, though, will only cover individual photography items to the value of £300. Not much good these days!

The other thing to remember when relying on a home insurance policy for photography equipment is that they almost always do not cover anything which is used professionally / to make income.

The added benefit of a specialist photographic insurance policy is often that you get public liability insurance too, so if you are unfortunate enough to trip up someone with your tripod and injure them, you have appropriate cover!

I use photoguard for my more expensive equipment (£1000+). All the rest is on the contents insurance.
Have not had to claim yet so cant comment on their service.
