| | | Best SLR Camera Can anybody advice me on which is the best SLR camera for taking photos of wildlife. I have a normal digital camera but would like to move up to a SLR. I have heard that the new Cannon 400 EOS is very good and is not to complicated. |

| | | Re: Best SLR Camera I have a an older Canon the 300D, truth is that the make is not important, what is most important is the lens or lenses, what you need to do is to handle different cameras and then decide which you feel most comfortable with. The next question then is what kind of wildlife photography do you want to do? It is a that point that you need to select the type of lenses suitable for you needs and then work out what you can afford. I am sure that there are lots of very experienced people here who can give you that advice. |

| | | Re: Best SLR Camera From what I have read the 400D is a good camera but is seems to have more noise at higher ISO levels than the 30D. I would go for the 30D as the prices should be falling and it will do everything you want for wildlife photography.
What you must realise is that the DSLR will be heavier than the camera’s you are used to so you will need a sturdy tripod.
I would say the lenses you get will determine the quality and the range of different photos you can get. Depending on what you intend to shoot you will need at least 2 or 3 lenses.
So my advice is whatever camera you choose make sure you budget for some quality lenses as well.

The limiting factors are the quality of the lens and the skill of the photographer, the latter being about 90% of it (in my case 90% to blame )

Something that I do find a problem with my 300D is is light weight. I still have my Olympus OM1 amazing how heavy that feels in comparison with the 300D and how much easier it is to hold it steady. |

| | | Re: Best SLR Camera dont forget that for much serious wildlife photography you will need a long lense too and these are not cheap sigma 170-500 (little bigma) runs at £439 , Sigma 50-500 (bigma) at arround £700, sigma 80-400 OS is arround 800 notes, Canon 100-400 IS (the pump) is about a grand with the nikon 80-400 VR at a similar price.
