In the good old days of film (remember that?) my Mum and I were at Rame Head in Cornwall for the eclipse. She ran out of film just as the moonshadow came racing across the bay towards us. Aaargh!

I just grabbed the camera on the way out of the door and completely forgot that the memory card was still in the PC. I didn't take my camera bag, just the camera so had no spare cards and didn't realise until we got to Havant - a two hour drive from our house!

Fortunately there was an Asda supermarket a couple of miles from the theatre and I bought the only CF card they had - a 4 gig Sandisk II. That card now lives in the glove compartment of my car so I can never arrive anywhere cardless again.

Unless I go by train... Darn!

I've only missed a photo once due to letting the battery go flat - the first time I had the chance to get a shot of a Fallow Deer! Fortunately, I've managed to get several such shots since. And after using it for over a year, I've finally discovered there IS a place for a spare battery in my camera case!

Removing the card is no longer a problem, as I use a USB lead. And it's only a few times that I've forgotten to then delete the shots on the camera.

I have a very slight problem with my Panasonic FZ18. I'm forever switching the Mode dial between two settings (one for landscapes, one for wildlife), and very, very occasionally (three or four times in the 18 months I've had the camera) I've somehow turned the dial into an invalid position halfway between two settings. I then just get an error message on the display when I next try to take a shot. Unfortunately, the few times I've done this have seemed to be when I was about to take an important shot - I missed getting a good shot of a Wren (still haven't ever taken a shot of one), and missed my first chance of a photo of a Roe Deer (luckily I got one a few days later).

Mmmmm, your story reminded me of the time we went to Clovelly and we forgot the film, just remembering how angry I was at my Son as he was in charge of the camera at the time. I hope he's forgiven me.

I keep charged spare batteries in the camera case the card is put back straight away and cleared too all ready for the next lot..
You just need to be organised..

i bought a spare battery,so when i go on a extra long walk ive got a back up.but yes ive ran the battery flat just when a great shot comes along.now that is annoying

At least it's not a mistake that causes a loss of any images etc, more of an annoyance than anything.

My S8000fd case has pockets for extra batteries and a spare memory card.

I always keep my rechargeable batteries in the camera and a set of four brand new AA batteries in case they run out, that's always enough for my needs the only problem is when I'm out with my 10 year old nephew and he's got his camera with him... his always runs out of charge and as it takes AA batteries I have to give him two of mine I blame my sister for buying cheapo batteries!)

My OH laughs at me because I am forever leaving my memory card in the computer. He is completly organised and I am totally disorganised.
I carry a spare battery all the time so don't usually run out of battery power.
So I decided to apply the same criteria to memory cards and have tucked away one or two spares in the camera case....
Seems to be working so far *she touches wood*
