| | | Help with a memory card that won't give up its contents Can anyone give me some advice over what to do with a memory card that won't upload its contents? Is there somewhere I can send the memory card, some techy place where they'll know what to do? I've tried the card in three different cameras and on two computers, so it's definitely the card that's playing up. I just get a message on the PC screen that says the images can't be removed from the device.
(Camera is an EasyShare Z1015 IS, and the memory card is a SanDisk 8GB)
I'd be really grateful for help, because as well as my water vole shots, there are videos of my son's school play. |

| | | Re: Help with a memory card that won't give up its contents Kate, you can buy or download freeware data recovery software that will get your data back. I am sure there was a thread on this a while ago but I bet a few of our members will tell you which software to use.

I bought a copy of
"ParetoLogic Data Recovery Pro"
in the pst and three times it has done the business on compact flash cards.
Only one of them was mine!!! |

| | | Re: Help with a memory card that won't give up its contents Lexar are currently offering ImageRescue 3 for free. The offer is supposed to be for people who have recently bought a Lexar memory card but (I'll say this very quietly) the download page on their website does not require any proof of purchase, only an email address.
Go to http://store.lexar.com/imagerescue3/ and give it a try.

Woodman, I thought you might have solved it, but when I went to get my reading glasses the slider was in the right position, alas! |

| | | Re: Help with a memory card that won't give up its contents OK, I've downloaded the Lexar software, but it's saying 'please insert memory card into a reader', and I don't know what that is. At the moment it's in my camera, hooked up and still failing to transfer across. Any thoughts? |

| | | Re: Help with a memory card that won't give up its contents I think that many problems of this kind are caused by people being too "technical". Special programmes are not needed - you can transfer using Windows.
Sandisc flashcards will fit into a connector to your USB port or your camera connection will fit into the USB; your computer should recognise them as an 'external drive' - click on 'My Computer'. You should find something such as 'external drive' , 'USBI drive' D, E or whatever .... If you then click on that 'drive' you should see your photo files which you can copy and paste as normal ....

Its asking you to take the memory card out of the camera and connect it directly to your computer. This means putting the card ito a "Reader" which is usually a USB connector with a socket that the card plugs into. If you do not have a Reader this software is not going to work.
USB card readers are very cheap, and are generally a much faster way of getting your photos from your cards to your computer, so worth having anyway. I would go and buy one tomorrow.
Tescos, PC World, Dixons, all those kind of places will have them for about a fiver.
Good luck. |
