Wildest Dreams

The TV show that the BBC was recruiting for at the end of last 'Ends of the Earth' has now been rebranded as 'Wildest Dreams' and will be shown on BBC1 starting on the 22nd July.

It looks as though it's a reality TV show with 9 contestants travelling the world to make willife documentaries, with each contestant competing against the elements, and each other, for a job at the Natural History Unit

Could be a good a one for the diary

Stu

Re: Wildest Dreams

Is this the same programme that a number of WABbers applied to appear in?

Yep. I made it through 3 rounds of interviews, but didn't hear anything after that and I don't recognise any of the final 9. Any Wabbers in there?

Yeah, now you come mention it They obviously weren't looking for a bunch of apprentice weirdos, because there were several in the final dozen who made it to round 3 on my day of interviews...present company included of course

I was wondering what ever happened to that. Sorry you didn't make it Stu and thanks for the tip off. I shall post a link in the other thread to this one...

Re: Wildest Dreams - Starts Tonight at 19:30

Got it on now. It looks like the sort of show that even if you don't win, you'd staill have had the experience of a lifetime - and maybe the chance of changing your life.

I'd love to be able to change my life, but I wouldn't want to go on the telly to do so!

Re: Wildest Dreams

I'm watching this now, quite stunned. I missed the beginning, but one of the contestants I'm sure I used to work with.
I've just looked again. It's them I'm sure.

Regards, Chris

Re: Wildest Dreams

I've just watched the first episode, it looks like a great experience but the programme comes across a bit like "X Factor for Nature Photographers".

I'm sure I could identify at least two WAB members who would have done better than a couple of the selected contestants.

Let's hope the programme continues to improve, I like the concept.

Dave

Its why I didnt bother even going to the interview. TV producers want clashing backgrounds and personalities not someone whos good at nature photography. An entertaining programme was the aim not to find a new staff member. Thats my opinion of the situation anyway

I agree with UKwildlife, I think it is more about making an entertainment programme than anything else. I watched out of curiosity but I`m afraid it will end up like the Apprentice The people on there are up for a great experience & wil not loose on the deal.

She was the weakest link,goodbye!

It does beg the question ' why was she there? ' im sure the wabbers that didnt get through would all have had alot more passion than she did!

Wildest Dreams

Well I've seen enough after 10 mins I can see the pile of rubbish the BBC have been making that a lot of people here applied for (all be in under the guise of a different program name). What I really want to know why the BBC took the time to have a look at my images invite me to an interview and then never contact me again when it's clear already they were after complete idiots who had not got a clue.

Good grief if this is all they could find for TV wildlife filmamkers there is hope for me yet it's like Big Brother in African.

Pile of xexexexe I'll never apply again for anything the BBC want to do.

I have to admit I turned off after ten minutes and watched Star Trek instead. I was bored.

Re: Wildest Dreams

Have to agree... its all about 'entertainment' more than anything else. Can't help feeling it devalues the artform a little though. They've been particularly vague about exactly what job is on offer and I can't imagine they'll be offered anything more than work experience at the end of it.

Its gonna take a lot more than pointing a handycam at an elephant to become a wildlife filmmaker and is a bit of an insult to all those who have studied hard and worked their way up the hard way... or maybe I'm just being a bit touchy!

Re: Wildest Dreams

On BBC1 at breakfast, the announcers went to great lengths to stress that it was a post as _researcher_ that was up for grabs, not a film-maker.

Re: Wildest Dreams

Elevate29 I have to totally agree with you you only have too look around this forum to see what talent is about (I don't class myself as being any part of the BTW as I just pass through now and again).

The BBC had a real opportunity here and have blown it big time IMO They could have shown what a talent of interesting and very talented people are doing in their free time for the love of the great outdoors and all that is in it.

Very very poor as usual our TV standard slip once again to the cable and the other one with the dish serve up.

As soon as Broadband gets to decent speed levels country wide TV will be dead anyway, as then the way to produce, organise and deliver TV will be via the web.
I always wonder why the BBC don't start a new small funding scheme where they say to film makers photographers etc right here is £xxxx.xx go and make us a program on yyyyyy and then they can give it air time on BBC 3 and stop all the repeats we have only seen about 5 time before

Imagine the mixture of new and ORIGINAL and no doubt very talented work the country woudl get to see.

Re: Wildest Dreams

ok ive given the programme a couple of weeks and i am so disappointed. I thought the bbc would have gone for actual talent and not people who know nothing but make (ish ) good tv. I thought they would have wanted someone really knowledgable to get the job... v disappointing ps anyone actually like Nick Knowles??? Does he have enough coats on? I think he is averaging about 12 layers and looks rediculous!

Re: Wildest Dreams

I only saw one program last week? When I saw that they had hired someone who was afraid of water well that only confirmed what I suspected this program would be. Sensationalist xexexexe for the sheep of society. Pitty and I also feel sorry for all the genuine hopefulls that probably went to a lot of trouble applying for a place.

I am starting to agree with all the people who question the value of the BBC licence fee (should that be tax?) tbh.
