| | | Re: Wildest Dreams My daughter and a friend were interviewed for a program to do with friends leading different lifestyles. After a couple of visits the two girls that did the interview told them that they were to nice and ordinary and that they didnt want to set them up for the sort of humiliations that would most certainly occur in the program. Hence that person not being able to swim can be exploited to the limit. It's quite obvious that on programs like BB they pick on emotionally vulnerable people - I wont watch anything like that now. |

| | | Re: Wildest Dreams Really awful. I've tried to watch it but I just can't. It's so sensationalised... it just doesn't work. I wanted to see more wildlife, more camera techniques, more learning... not crying & hugging. Very disappointed. Glad I didn't go for the interview now! |

A load of rubbish. Reality tv meets interesting documentry don't mix in this case.
As a young person just really starting out in this business, it was a real let down to see someone being somewhat fast-tracked into a career which it obiviously takes others years to build.
And please would someone tell me why every single time the BBC and others make a programme like this they must go to africa? Sure lions and rhinos are amazing but I'd like to see how those finalists would have managed on a
cold(ish) morning in britain trying to programme some of our most prolific species. A thumbs down from this disgruntled brit chick. |

| | | Re: Wildest Dreams very well said, especially the point about Africa. It is one place I always wanted to visit but after not being able to escape those stupid Big Cat diaries and other similar programmes grrrrrh - I am sure there are other more interesting places in the world but maybe they don't live up to peoples dreams and aspirations that is the ultimate holiday in the African sun?
It is a shame that programs like this have got to be sensationalist to bring in the ratings - think about that Australian animal taunter-er. Did the majority of people watch him because they enjoyed the wildlife, or was it more the danger he put himself in? I suspect I know which it was!
Very sad. Quote:

| | | Re: Wildest Dreams I watched the first 20 minutes and thought it was rubbish - just another variation on the reality show theme but with Nick Knowles' over dramatic narrative.
I then switched over to BBC 2 to watch a real wildlife programme - 'Avocets - Born Survivors'. Unfortunately it was only on for 10 minutes but, needless to say, I didn't switch back to 'Wildest Dreams' and won't be watching it again.

| | | Re: Wildest Dreams As a professional cameraman I did tune in to watch it knowing full well from what I had heard previously that it was a non starter. I was not disappointed, I'm afraid this is becoming the norm for television these days.
Reality Shows which this is, is what bumps up the viewing figures from the general public that's what TV is about these days.
Those people will never become wildlife camera persons, one will become a household celebrity for a week or so after the show finishes, and then fade away into the sunset. Very much like the people we see in Big Brother, Get me out of Here to mention but two.
I'm feel sorry for the many on this site who applied in good faith and who could have made it into a worthwhile programme with their knowledge of photography and camera. A great pity

| | | Re: Wildest Dreams Have to agree, it was disappointing.
It really stood out that they hardly mentioned people being remotely interested in wildlife (apart from the one female contestant) and it was clear from early on that they just wanted different personalities.
I guess I'll still watch it but only for the little scenery / wildlife you do see.
