| | lens and Digital Tele-converter Hi All
i am new to Wildlife photography.
I have DSLR nikon d40x (18-55) and am planning to buy one more lence that give me more zoom.
Can i buy 70-300 VR nikkor lence?
Can I use Digital Tele-converter to get more zoom?
Will the quality of the picture remains the same?
Can somebody suggest me.
Thanks

The 70-300mm lens is a very good lens (within it's price range), and will give you a maximum of 5.45 times more magnification than your 18-55mm lens.
Yes, you would also be able to put a teleconverter onto the 70-300mm to give either 1.4X or 2X more zoom, but would almost certainly have to use manual focus instead of autofocus.
Also, the teleconverter would reduce the amount of light passing through the lens, so you would have to use slower shutter speeds, which might cause problems in low light, or with moving subjects.
The other problem with putting teleconverters onto zooms is that it will definitely reduce image quality. Whether the end results would be acceptable, only you could decide, but most people try to avoid teleconverters on zooms.
Regards
Mike. |

Users of the Olympus EC-14 report no discernable image degredation, and I've not noticed any with mine. But I guess in theory just adding extra optical elements must introduce some. Mind you it currently costs around £350!

| | | Re: lens and Digital Tele-converter also dont forget that when you use a teleconverter, you may double focal length, you also double camera shake.
you wont get away with a cheap tripod either as the new weight and length of lens will make short work of a hight street cheapo.
so, maybe you should add the price of the lens + converter + good tripod.
this may put you in the next lens up bracket.
just a thought | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
