Well, you say that, a model of the same level has been produced in the form of the 50D but I'm not sure everyone would agree that it counts as something worth upgrading to from a 40D

I build up quite and extensive kit of 35mm film kit from second hand, much of which I've sold recently for the same sort of money.
Quality lenses don't go out of date.
The same is not quite so true of dslr bodies, but I've sold enough pics from my D70 to buy several D300's, but I've sold B******ll from the D300.
And scanned slides are still selling
There's more to it than megapixels

Thats exactly why it was cheaper Adam

Apparently the 50D could have been a lot better but Canon decided it could effect the sales of it's next model up that was a lot more expensive, it seems the 50D might have been held back deliberately

lol, i spent alot of time scouring camera sites , including the DSLR's when i was buying my camera and the 50d never came up once says something i suppose

It's not a bad camera at all, just more of a sister model than an upgrade.
