Check out a thread called "Sigma 50-500 versus Sigma 150-500" and it will discuss three Sigma lenses, when you are looking for a bargain you will come across all three and you should be careful abut making your choice. I have use and like a much cheaper Sigma lens 170-500 but although I am pleased with it and it is cheaper than 150-500 It does not have OS and the glass is not the same quality as the 150-500.
good luck
Roy

| As Davy G has said, the Bigma is an excellent lens - BUT - some do
not have image stabilization, and without IS you will need at least
a monopod.

| | | Re: What lense for a newbie? I currently have the choice of two lenses and wondered what one you'd pick?
Lens one
Sigma 50-500mm 4-6.3EX APO RF HSM Lens [no image stabilisation]
Lens two
Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM [with OS]
They're at the moment similar prices, what would be the best to own for wildlife photography.
Thanks all

| | Re: What lense for a newbie? Hi, I recently bought the Sigma 150-500 and I'm slowly getting better results. It gets heavy if you use it hand held by the end of the day so I would also recomened that you have a mono pod available. The price has shot up I bought mine earlier than I had intended because the price was going up from £630 to £750 everywhere else.
But the pictures I've started to get are worth the arm ache. |

Putting money aside I would choose the DG coated image stabalised 150-500 however both are good lenses.
