Speaking of focus stacking can I ask a (probably silly) question? - Is this technique pretty much only used on dead / non moving stuff in an indoors setup? I assume you need a focusing rail etc? Have seen some pictures from this technique and they are incredible. I'll try find you a link. To be honest you have probably found it already but I'll post back when I have one.
*edit* - ok try this one http://www.photomacrography2.net/for...opic.php?t=391
TobyH | The programme that was recommended to me is CombineZ5. I havent really played yet but from other photo forums it can be used, with restrictions, handheld. Obviously a focussing rail is better for more control as long as the subject is static for a few seconds. The subject in the url is obviously dead it's a stack of 68 frames !! lol. I would be disappointed if I couldn't get say 5 or 6 images with a live subject....watch this space |

Great lense for indoor work on static (dead) subjects with the right lighting. Found it near on impossible to get a half decent shot out in the field with higher magnifications. Now stick with my old and trusted Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro.
Look forward to seeing some of your shots, it will no doubt keep you amused during the winter months.

Gerry | Static? dead? nooo where's the challenge in that. Gotta be out in the field, Force 9 gale, chucking it down with hailstone the size of golf balls, lying in 6" of mud and photographing a mossie in flight |
