| | | Buzzard Just got back from a week in the Lake District, near Bassenthwaite. No ospreys yet, but I wanted to share a picture I took of a buzzard showing it's characeteristic markings. I know they are common and the photo could be better, but I am on a learning curve. |

| | | Re: Buzzard A nice shot Dan and they can be difficult to photograph against a bright sky. We have lots of them up here but I never tire of watching them, as they are such beautiful birds

| | | Re: Buzzard Hi Dan, welcome to WAB - thats just a bit blurred, but in fact apart from that its a really good under body pic to show all the characteristic features very well - it looks like a medium phase bird.
Nice.

| | | Re: Buzzard Yes, the sky is a tricky background. I think I exposed about 4 stops over the setting suggested by an evaluative reading.
And I think there is some chromatic aberation on the leading edges of wings.
Thank you for your kind words ron1863 |

| | | Re: Buzzard Diggleken - I noticed it was rather blurred. It was handheld at 1/250 sec with a Canon 100-400 at 370mm. I used single shot focus rather than continuous (I realised this after it had flown out of sight). I thought I had focused on the bird - I guess it must have moved to a different distance by the time I pressed the shutter? Or is there another possible explanation? |

| | | Re: Buzzard billybob99 - I had the image stabiliser turned on which on this lens is supposed to give an extra two stops of stability (if you see what I mean). |

| | | Re: Buzzard Just had a look at some other pictures on the same card. This one was taken within one second of the previous one and at the same settings and yet seems sharper |

| | | Re: Buzzard Hi Dan,
I'm no expert, but its likely as you say it drifted a little out of focus - I have the same sort of prob using macro for flowers waving in the wind!
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: Buzzard Nice pic but keep in mind IS does let you shoot two stops slower, BUT, doesn't help with subject motion.
So if the subject is travelling (flying) 250th sec might not be fast enough to freeze it sharply.
regards.
