A few shots from Martin Mere. Why does it seem it's the coldest, windiest place on the planet?

And why do birds sit within inches of you knowing full well they wont focus infront of your 500mm lens 3mtr focus limit?

Lovely sharp shots Stu, and I think you've made a good point there. In a situation like this, I'd happily sacrifice the image quality of a prime for the versatility of a zoom

Three great natural shots Stu. Love the duck in flight, and the Tree Sparrow is another very nice one. The last one looks ok on my monitor and I wouldn't have said you had overdone the noise reduction.

I usually have the opposite problem in getting near enough to the birds.

Nick, yep, wish I'd held out for a while and saved for another year and bought the nikon 200-400 zoom. The 500mm optic is an ace piece of glass but sometimes its infuriating and frustrating.

Ollie, I know, not close enough is my normal rant! Can't win!

Love the water on that last one, it actually looks like ice. Don't know if the NR did that, but looks fine to me.

Aye, texture of it though, especially the smoother stuff at the front there, looks kind of glassy. Don't dislike it though, quite the opposite...
