South England / London Bird Photographers wanted

Hi All

I'm getting into my bird photography and want to get out and shoot some woodland birds. I've had a crack just wandering around snapping on the off chance but wanted to have a go at the hide/camo set up.

Are there any photographers in the London Area who are going out soon that I could tag along with to check out hides/drapes in action before I make a move?? I'm in Putney but will travel to get the right location and I dn't know any Wildlife togs in the area.

I shoot with a Canon 1DMKIII + 300 F2.8 with TC's

Doesn't look like there are any togs down here, not seen many on my travels around, doesn't help not being a local down here I suppose therefore not knowing the places. I'll keep at it

I can't help with your question, I'm afraid, but it might be worth posting it on BirdForum BirdForum - The Net's Largest Birding Community, Dedicated To Wild Birds
Also, if you're in Putney, you're not far from Richmond and Bushy Parks. Birds tend to be tamer in the parks, so you might get some good photo opps there.

Hi Ian,

Not sure I can help much, I spend most weekends somewhere around London, trying to photograph birds and other critters, I'm still fairly new to it all. I don't have a hide but wear a camo jacket and green trousers and find that staying still in deep enough undergrowth is often adequate depending on the animal. Other than that, I try to move quietly and think about lines of sight.

I'd second Richmond Park for photography opportunities. As well as the birds, it's got an amazing variety of insect life in the warmer months and the deer rut in autumn is not to be missed! A walk alongside the Thames can also be surprisingly productive.
