The One Show Photography Competition

Don't know if this was mentioned last week, I couldn't find it on the forum.

The BBC's 'The One Show' are currently running a UK Wildlife Photography competition:

Typical BBC T&C's. I wouldn't give them the time of day so they have no chance getting my images

I pulled out, partly out of principle and partly because I don't feel like carrying one of those full blown dSLRs around

the TC's dont look that bad to me - at least they arent after exclusive use (unlike the panasonic comp last year )

Example:

The BBC sell an image of yours, say a Fox, to a Pro Foxhunting or Anti Foxhunting campaign which then goes nationwide with you being credited for the image and therefore seen as supporting the campaign. The BBC don't have to tell you anything, they make alot of money and you get alot of oooooooooooooooo. Insert Pro and Anti whatever in the example.

Highly unlikely to happen but if the BBC sell your image to an image agency you have zero control over its useage and it could end up anywhere.

Mind you you take this risk every time you sell an image to an image agency yourself anyway, or indeed if you sell images elsewhere without fencing them about with use clauses,

I suppose at the end of the day it comes down to whether you believe the chance of winning the prize / publicity is worth the risk in the long run.

Kev, I just noticed you had a change of heart - any particular reason?

Yup, I emailed the show and queried if they would require hi-res images from the winners. They don't, so I can't see any images being sold by the BBC at 1000px. They are welcome to play with the low-res stuff and if I win (ok just suspend your disbelief for a second) if I win, well a top-of-the-range Canon camera is a 1Ds MkII but I bet they try to give the winner alot less lol. It is in their T&C's so they should have to give the winner a top-of-the-range camera. Unless it's a Nikon then there is always eBay *grin*
