From the Lincs Wildlife Trust website "Monday 1 December 330 bulls, 990 cows, 1216 pups."
So my guesstimate of 3000 was a bit over - 2500 is nearer the mark. With 700 gone there are still about 1800 there at the moment. And some of the pups are still newborns so it will be a few weeks yet before the last ones leave.

What sort of equipment were you using Dave? Will 400mm do?

| | | Re: Donna Nook access ! I was mainly using an 80-400 zoom but was regularly down in the middle of that range, for example both of these were at 175mm:
I also made good use of my 16-85 zoom and took quite a few shots with it at it's widest setting. These were both 16mm:
Hope you have a great trip - the weather forecast looks pretty reasonable and a couple of degrees warmer than last week. Be sure to post your pics here!

P.s. I meant to add that those are all un-cropped images so your seeing exactly what I saw at those focal lengths. My camera is a Nikon with a DX format sensor which has a 1.5x crop factor so the 175mm shots are roughly equivalent to 260mm with a full-frame sensor, and the 16mm shots are equivalent to 24mm.

I'd heard a lot about Donna Nook and was very keen to go but you never know if a site is going to live up to it's reputation. I have to say it was everything I'd hoped for and more!
I ended up keeping 235 shots - not quite a record for one day's shooting but not far off.

| | | Re: Donna Nook access ! Here are a couple of my pics from last Thursday.
The light was good for December but the sun was low and just couldn't creep up above the dunes behind me for some of the shots. The fence cast some distracting shadows but that couldn't detract from the beauty of these amazing creatures. I saw a cow suckling a pup that clearly wasn't hers. It was thought she had lost her own pup and was pouring her maternal care on the lucky (if not fat) stranger.
