Good stuff Roger. If I've worked Pauline and Ian's schedule out right they'll be off on the 9th and 10th. I'd prefer the 10th as I'm planning on going to the Nikon show at Olympia on the 9th.
I've had a look at the tides and low water is at about ten past nine in the morning and high tide is at three-thirty in the afternoon. It's about a three hour drive for me so if I drop my son at school and come straight up I should be there by midday (or I could switch to "nasty dad" mode and make him get the bus, then I could be there much earlier).

Theoretically at the moment we are available for the 10th as you rightly worked out - but Ian wants to go on a weekend day - he wants access to the beach for the waders - esp now we have big lenses that should allow us to be out there but not close to the seals at all and still get shots - but we're as interested in the waders - and maybe just a bit more interested in the waders actually. The thing no-one knows in advance is which day of the week will the aircraft fly or not - if the red flag isn't flying and planes are not about then from what I've read you can go out....
Will let you know in the week (I'm going missing this weekend!) I suppose we might do it twice which would be a week tomorrow and the 10th.......... Our plan involves us getting up very early like 2am and off at 3 to be parking up at 7.30am - a) to get a parking spot and b) to avoid the worst of the visitors and c) cos days are so short.........

Dave it would probably be better if you could get here a bit earlier than midday if possible. It will be pretty crowded by then and also if it happens to be overcast the light will be going by around 2:30pm and that's not leaving you much time for photographs.

Roger. | Sound advice there Roger. Unfortunately I've just been reminded that Tom has mock GCSEs for two weeks starting on Monday 8th December so "Nasty Dad" is out of the question. Which puts me back on a Sunday or leaving it until after Christmas. Either way, I won't be there at 7.30am I might manage 9.30 though.

| | | Re: Donna Nook access ! Hi guys, I saw mention of a really early start there. Just to let you know that I was there on the 23rd Dec last year and got there for dawn at about 8am. I was quite disappointed that the sun didn't really hit the seals near the fenceline for about another hour as the sandbank got in the way of the sun. I could see that it was shining on the seals out at sea but not on those close to the fence (and the bank). 'Course you're going a month earlier so that'll affect the position of the sun in the sky a bit so you may be in luck.
Might give you an extra hour in bed and I wished I'd not bothered getting up at 5:15am!

Dave P. | I cetainly wouldn't leave it until after Christmas Dave as the seals start going back out to sea late December. You would most definitely be better on a weekend than leaving it until after Christmas.
Weekends aren't a possibility for me though as we only have the one vehicle and my wife needs it at weekends.

| | | Re: Donna Nook access ! Judging by the weather forecast for weekend the possibility of us going to Donna Nook this Saturday is rapidly dwindling .......... its cold enough there at the best of times - during a north easterly gale with rain and snow - I don't think so - I've gone all wuzzy again.........

| | | Re: Donna Nook access ! Don't blame you Pauline! I'm waiting to see Tom's exam timetable cos there'll probably be some days when he has no exams and no A2 lessons and won't have to go in to school at all so I can possibly make a weekday trip after all.

| | | Re: Donna Nook access ! Just got back from a very wintery weekend at Donna Nook. Parking on the Friday afternoon was easy but Saturday was extremely busy, even at 9am. The snow wasn't enough to put anyone off and quite a few were using the local campsites too.
Travelling back this morning was a bit slow going due to snow on the roads around North Somercotes but it was a great weekend and good to give the camera an outing again.
