What Lens?

Ok, ok, ok, I have made my mind up. 300-800mm Sigmonster it is. I have seen the pics and they are as sharp as a Nikon and Cannon and much brighter even with a slightly higher stop than the Nikon 600. Im going to team it with a 1.4 and a dreaded 2x for some plantet shots. Trouble is the tripod will almost cost as much as a lens lol. Im still debating about the Macro lens but im getting there so I will shut up soon, you can all rest easy

Thank you to everyone that has helped. I have made my mind up and ordered the Sigmonster with the Wimberly head, I can hardly tell the difference with quality between these and Nikon's 600mm so I went for this one. I took everything on board that you all said and all I have to get now is a better tripod but for now I will make do with the one I have. Its way to light for this combo but for a short while it will be suitable. I will get a Gitzo after your advice. Thanks guys and girls, I appreciate it

I've often found that with a lens this heavy - I dont own one but have hired it on occasion, that the best solution is to put the tripod on the lens bush but to also put a monopod under the camera too.

Actually a beanbag on the ground or on something really solid makes an excellent support for these ultra-long lenses
