| | | Andy Rouse in Abergavenny any one go? Well this is the second time I've been and it was a birthday present from my girl friend, I used to live down there for a while so know the town very well.
The talk was as entering as usual the images were brilliant (the tiger fight were some of the best work I've ever seen) and of course he is now using Nikon gear which seems to be giving him the results he wants with a D3 apparently he's had a hard time on some forums from his change from Canon, BUT when it came to questions his attitude just stunk
One guy asked him a general question about post work and he just told him to pay £50.00 and go to one of his workshops another question came up and he repeated the same comment, now I don't care who you are there is no need for that type of attitude especially at the event organised by the local camera club surly he knows he will be asked such questions most of the audience are photographers after all. After that needless to say he got very few questions.
It put a bit of a dampener on it for me to be honest I know he is know for his out spoken comments but that IMO was just rude.
Overall it was an entertaining evening but not sure if we will make the trip again as it always means staying over in a B&B and a long drive. And with his attitude I don't know if it will be worth going next time. |

| | | Re: Andy Rouse in Abergavenny any one go? I was once at a local village show and got talking to one of the artists and asked her about how she did her backgrounds. She brusquely told me to go to one of her classes if I wanted to know that, to which my reply was, 'No thanks, you're not THAT good' and walked away. |

| | | Re: Andy Rouse in Abergavenny any one go? think this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt guys.
I've seen him a quite a few times and he answers questions very well and has a good sense of homour, at the end of the day its all about how you take someone, im sure he doesnt mean to upset the audience.

| | | Re: Andy Rouse in Abergavenny any one go? Thanks Stephen, I felt I had to respond. That comment was totally tongue in cheek and I spoke to the guy afterwards about his question, he saw it was a joke too!! Cmon guys, there has to be humour. Also you should realise that it was not a photographic audience but, like all my talks these days, are a moxed bag. So talking about processing is not going to happen as it will bore half the audience senseless and it is not the time and the place as it will take a long time to answer. This is why I suggested my seminar (which got a big laugh) as I spend the whole afternoon doing it, the 100 or so people that attended it a few weeks ago loved it. And by the way we had a full hour of Q&A where I was bombarded with questions and I answered every one to the full - this is according to the client critiques and not my own ego.
So I think it is unfair to sully my reputation based on something that actually you misinterpreted as, like I said, the guy who asked it was perfectly happy and saw it as a joke. I had already signed a book for him in the interval and he had asked me something similar which I answered for him. I don't upset audiences, else I would not be in this game for long. Of course some people do not agree with what I say about photography or my views and that is very cool, we are all human beings, I just wonder why people then choose to come onto a forum and slag me off? It's not very nice and is against the spirit of the wildlife that we are all so passionate about. 99% of the people in that audience, and in all my audiences, go away inspired, educated and entertained and that is all I can ever hope for.

Welcome and maybe you will become an 'Honorary Commander' for services to nature photography like they do at universities

I stand by my original comments, your work is brilliant as I said in the original posting I've a good sense of humour BUT you came across as being very blunt to put it politely, what happened after the event and who you spoke I never did hear of course. I just went on what on the comments and the way they came across to me a member of the public in your audience, and I'm not out to sully your reputation at all!! I made a comment on how I and my gf though you came across . And she speaks her own mind and is a big fan of yours BTW.
BTW the gf said the talk and images were better in Abergavenny than when she saw the same talk in Warrington
If WAB want to pull this post please do so. Or ban me whatever...... |

| | | Re: Andy Rouse in Abergavenny any one go? Hi Andy, my comment (above) about the artist at the local show and her work - that definitely doesn't apply to your work, which is inspiring and wish I could attain that level myself! I use your Rough Guide to Wildlife Photography a lot as a reference.
I don't suppose you have any plans to come to the Isle of Wight and do a talk at all? |

| | | Re: Andy Rouse in Abergavenny any one go? Unfortunately it just takes one piece of nastiness and pros like me don't bother with forums anymore. My comment stands, why would someone come onto a forum to say such negative things, they have an agenda and that is that. Shame but there you go, thanks to everyone else for the positive comments. |

Don't rush of Andy, there is much more to this forum than just criticising others but members tend to speak their minds and that can be a good thing, very rarely is it meant in an unkind way. You should have read some of the comments regarding Johny Kingdom in earlier posts, that poor devil took some flack from several of us. I suppose it goes with the territory if you make a living by being in the public eye, it would be nice if you could find the time to stay with us, as a friend and not just as a mere celebrity.
Welcome to WAB !!!
