| | | Kenko PRO 300 AF 1.4x Teleconverter Hi Folks
I am wanting to get the above teleconverter for my birthday but have been surprised at the difference in price when looking it up on-line
One store has a white version for £99 whilst another store (who I thought were reasonable on price has a black version for £159.
Firstly is there more than one version of this teleconvertor or is it the different colour that makes the price so different |

| | | Re: Kenko PRO 300 AF 1.4x Teleconverter I think that so long as it's described as the "Pro 300" it should be the same. There is wide price variation, I got mine from a certain Hong Kong supplier.
I can thoroughly recommend the 1.4X. I've got two, one I use almost permanently with my Sigma 150mm, and another one I'm currently using with my Canon 300mm F4. It works really well with both. I'm also very pleased with the results I'm getting with the 2X, but until I'd used it with the 300mm, I was never pleased with the results. It was hopeless with the Sigma 50-500mm.
Provided your going to use them with a good quality prime lens, you should be pleased with the results. |

I'm sure it will go well with my sigma 105mm macro |

I'm sure it will go well with my sigma 105mm macro | Yes, I'm sure it will! I can hardly see any quality difference, I also like the extra reach it gives. It doesn't alter the minimum focus distance, but it does give greater than 1:1 at the minimum distance. Very handy!
I've also had reasonable results using the 2X TC on the 150mm, but there I could see a marked reduction in quality. The images were still good and improved well in photoshop, but it's not a set up I'd use regularly. |

Do you have to tape the contacts when using the teleconvertor with the siggy? |

Do you have to tape the contacts when using the teleconvertor with the siggy? | I don't. The autofocus works fine, apart from when your very close, then it changes to manual. This is the same with any TC, even the Sigma own brand.
Personally it doesn't bother me, I usually use manual mode anyway..Of course, your lens may be different, it's a "feature" of the 150mm! |
