| | | digital rights to pics Hi guys
I was about to submit a request for a photograph, they're offering around £50, however, I've just noticed they want digital rights for this too ? What exactly does this mean Assuming the worse could they just use the digital file for as many times and uses as they want ?

| | | Re: digital rights to pics As far as i can see into this like Darley states they seem to want complete rights to this image and will use it as many times as they want I do not agree with giving up the right to an image you do not know what they are going to do with the image also they will make more than the would normally have to from an image with your rights protected.
But its upto you to think about this but I know what I would do especially for £50.00

Photographers Direct at a guess
They want 1/4 page in a book/mag for editorial for world english language, excluding north america. I notice they don't say how long for?
Plus digital rights means they will be able to use it on a website as well.
£50 - probably the going rate in this day (especially at PD ) - they sell a lot more for a lot less!
I'd have submitted it, £50 is £50.

neil | yep - so long as its non exclusive that seems like a fair price -like snapper says fifty notes is fifty notes
if they want exclusive rights they should pay a lot more
tat said you should never agree to anything you dont fully understand - next time ask them to clarify. Also its worth joining the BFP if you sell a lot of pics as they give good advice on stuff like this.

| | | Re: digital rights to pics I very much doubt that I have a picture worth £50.00 but if I had, whoever wanted it could have it and do as they pleased with it, it might sound mercenary but I don't get all precious about my efforts, the money would help me to produce a lot more pictures, and that is what I considder important to me.

| | | Re: digital rights to pics Too many people give away their pictures, which devalues all photographs. That's why people do not respect other people's copyright.
If the deal is ¼ page in a book/magazine, that will be for a single book, or issue of a magazine. They might also be allowed to use it to advertise that publication. £50 is not unreasonable, I was paid £35 for 2 pictures in a magazine that were reproduced at about that size.
Digital rights usually mean that the image will be too small to be worth nicking (640 by 480?) and are worth peanuts . You can pick up photos for websites for a few pence/cents from places like Fotolia and Dreamstime etc.
Is this a competition or are you guaranteed the £50? |

Hi steve, as I said in the earlier post another 80 pics gone up now so don't think they'll be wanting mine lol The price was for 1/4 page book, 40,000 plus editions.

| | | Re: digital rights to pics Just picking up on this. Stock photos for the web carry precious little cash value. Maybe £20 according to a mate who works in a photo agency. Really top line stock, maybe £50. There's a bit more money in the 'feature' story pictures, you know the cat in a santa 'claws' hat and so on. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
