| | | Bounder I have to confess this is a bit of a cheat. I found this perfect example of the species lying on it's side. Unless the Fly Agaric has a habit of jumping out of the ground, I can only assume that either an animal or bird, or human has for no apparent reason upended it. I've been walking around this area for three years now looking for just one such example, and must admit I was gutted seeing this one ruined.
It seemed a complete waste, so I put it upright and took some shots.
My question to the forum is how unethical is this? If it produces a reasonable image of the species does it really matter that that image has been manipulated.
BTW I'm not referring to the picking of the toadstool purposefully as a method of getting a good picture either. Personally I wouldn't dream of carrying out such vandalism. |

| | | Re: Bounder I have suspected others of doing this when I've seen unusual groupings of fungi. I wonder if i just imagined it?
I personally don't see anything wrong with the way you got your shot, Chris.

A picture is no use to them if it doesn't show the gills!
You have hardly cheated - you are not misrepresenting anything, but restoring the status quo!

| | | Re: Bounder For my part I can't see anything particularly problematic or potentially misleading in this image. The base of the stem (where it meets the ground) maybe looks a little "wrong" when I compare it to my own photos of this species....but I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said...
I have come across this so often, mushrooms uprooted or broken off at the stem and I can't help but wonder who or what is responsible (accept probably many different reasons) .
