| | | 5D MkII Specs released well well, it's not the first on April so your jaw might hit the floor and stay there.
Copied from warehouse express:
21.1 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor
3.9 fps shooting at 78 JPEG continuous image burst
Full HD 1080 movie recording including HDMI output
9-point AF with 6 extra 'hidden' autofocus assist points
Huge bright 3" LCD screen with Live View mode and Face Detection Live AF
DIGIC IV processing
Super sleek, sturdy magnesium alloy body
16:9 aspect ratio
High ISO 6400 - expandable down to 50 and up to 23,600
Improved weather sealing to keep out the elements
Optional Wireless Fire Transmitter with External HDD and GPS compatibility
The resolution is pretty sweet however, 3.9fps is still slow. I'm a bit sad they've introduced a video mode. It's a huge step in technology for sure but I feel it has sullied the idea of photography in what one of the blokes on a Canon movie called 'a photographers camera'.
Is this the beginning of the end for still photography?

| | | Re: 5D MkII Specs released To be honest Chris I like the idea of having HiDef video at the touch of a button, I'm really excited about this camera it ticks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned.
The low fps is there for a reason to make people buy the 50D The 5D has always been the Landscape/Wedding/Portrait photographers tool of choice, who does not have the budget for the 1D's.
As I do video and stills it will save be carrying a boat load of gear around for starters. Instead of the stills and video camera I can just take the stills that has video also
If you follow the following links you can see it is a very capable video camera as well.

Camera review Canon EOS 5D Mark II Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review
The future is a camera that shoots stills and video at a high enough resolution that is can be used in a professional capacity for both those fields. And the 5D is the first from Canon that can for fill that role. It's then down to you the user how you want to use it, which IMO is the greatest flexibility we can have, it will certainly save my back in the future that's for sure |

Chris | Would this be any good for Bird/wildlife photography? I am still working out which to buy Mk3 or new 5d mk2? I got the 500mm lens + Wimberley setup but which body?
Also looking for a good macro lens + wide angle for landscapes must be IS.
Cheers

| | | Re: 5D MkII Specs released I too was a bit disapointed to see that video capabilities had been included. Apparantly Canon responded to the requests of Photo Journalists who it seems are in the habit of carrying with them a video camera as well as a SLR, now they will only need to carry the 5D MK11 and reduce weight. Problem is that Canon have priced it accordingly and put it out of the reach of a large majority of amateur's.
Think I will pick up a copy of the old 5D at a bargain price.

Hi brian,
I used to own a 5d its a great camera capable of producing really sharp large images.
I had a lot of trouble with dust on the sensor and the lack of internal dust cleaning that canon have on their entry level cameras was annoying.
I put it down to a second hand 100 400 is lens that i was convinced was the source of my trouble
The new 5d mk2 does have that facility though and a massive pixel count on a full frame sensor. By the sounds of it its going to be a big seller. the full frame sensor would work well with wide angle lenses.
I traded my 5d in for a eos1d mk3 and haven't looked back. The mark3 has 50+ custom function settings so you can set it up to work just as you want it to.
It has a slightly smaller sensor than the 5d that gives a 1.3 crop factor to your lenses. This in my view is a plus as it gives you that bit more reach.
There has been a lot written about the focus tracking on the mk3 but i think canon have now sorted this out.I use focus tracking a lot and haven't had any trouble with it up to now.
another bonus of the 1.3 cropped sensor is the fact that your taking pictures with the sweet spot or centre of the lenses your using. check out the MTF charts for canon l series lenses
To sum up i dont think you would be disappointed with either camera and they are a similar price but for me the extra push you get with a cropped sensor won me over
regards mark...

The new new 5d11 is twice as much here as in the states | It's the same in any department, here in the UK we are ripped off for everything. I am also an amateur astronomer and I find that stuff is much cheaper in the States than here. I go to star parties in the States and if I want any new astronomy gear, I get it there.
