| | | Re: birmingham area I agree Cannock Chase probably best for you, pop into the visitor centre too for walk guides/maps etc, lots of free leaflets on a range of wildlife topics, cafe and toilets
The rangers organise guided walks too....

| | | Re: birmingham area Bear in mind that the deer range over a very large area and move about quite a lot. Just saying "go to X"`or "go to Y" will not guarantee that you'll see a deer on your first visit. My advice though would be to check out the Glacier Boulder/Freda's Grave area just after dawn; there's usually a few deer around there. You might be lucky on your 1st visit. OTOH you might have to go there many times before you actually see a deer. Also bear in mind that they're wild animals. The Does in particular are generally very nervous and getting closer than about 100 yards can be difficult. If you simply want photographs of deer you'll find it easier to go over to Bradgate Park which is just north of Leicester.

| | | Re: birmingham area Hi
Cannock Chase is a definite, followed by Sutton Park. I saw a Doe Fallow trot across the edge of Sutton Park this year while out doing some bird ringing. If you fancy getting up very early and creeping around then Muntjac are pretty much everywhere across the conurbation.
There a lot of good local nature reserves in Birmingham and some great ones on the outskirts in Worcs and Warwickshire. It is not the urban desert many people think it is.

| | | Re: birmingham area Hi & Welcome, about an hours drive away is the Wyre Forest, near Bewdley, Kidderminster. We have seen Fallow deer there. Lickey Hills is great for bird watching, muntjac may be up there but I`ve never seen them. If your southside try Upton Warren nature reserve, great for waterbirds.

Hi Irish lad... thought would add this for you, mum and baby fallow deer on Chase this evening, unfortunately, they spotted me as soon as I did them and disappeared fast! hence not a good shot
