A friend of mine recently retired from a lifetime of running a couple of newsagents' shops. He reckoned that every hobby interest magazine runs the same "How to" stuff on roughly a three-yearly cycle.

I suppose that squares with a lot of people's interest level in whatever hobby, the steep learning curve at the outset, their kit acquisition tendencies and the desire to garner knowledge during that time.

For myself, I'm inclined to fit the picture. I've shot various rifles for years and now don't take any magazines at all. OTOH, I've recently discovered digital photography and my magazine subscription is for a mag which appears tailored to beinners/novices mostly; I know that I'll move on at some stage.
