Re: waterproof bags for cameras specifically a compact

You're much better carrying your camera in a small pelican style case, fastened to the canoe on bunge cord. mine used to wedge down the side of my seat. This does mean that you have to release your spray deck before you can use it, but if it's a rough sea, letting go of your paddle to take photos will be the last thing on your mind!

You will get water into your canoe, so wherever you stow the camera in a waterproof bag, it will get water splashes on the front of the lens cover which will cause horrible out of focus spots on your images. Its quicker to get the camera box out and remove the camera, rather than trying to dry the outside of the protective bag. Don't forget that all the water in your cag sleeves will run down your arms straight into your camera box, no matter how convinced you are that you have no water up there!

As someone who's done a lot of canoeing, all I would recomend is taking a cheap camera as it may well get wet. Also, don't allow it to move around in the boat in a manner that could affect your ability to exit the boat cleanly when upside down.

Re: waterproof bags for cameras specifically a compact

I bought one some time ago, the photos were not very good. They may have improved them since (about 7 years ago).

I recently got notice of Waterproof cameras from about £50, Google Underwater cameras, I have just done that and loads come up. Could be a better bet.
