| | | Re: DEATH of a camera shop I bought my first SLR camera kit many years ago (i.e.pre-Internet) from an independent high street retailer but I did my own research prior to visiting the shop so I did not need to rely on in shop advice.
During the last 18 months or so I have bought a new DSLR camera, lenses, telescope, etc. all from Warehouse Express. Again, I did my own research prior to deciding what to purchase. I find online shopping so much more convenient and I have found the prices at Warehouse Express to be very competitive and the customer service (when required .... very rarely) to be excellent.
I have no desire at all to use the local Jessops when their prices are so much greater .... and you have to visit when the shop is open!

| | | Re: DEATH of a camera shop I'm one of the ones that hardly ever shops locally..I unsually buy my goods through online sellers, either ebay or the likes of WarehouseExpress. This originally started when I was unable to get out and about due to my back, so on line sellers were a life saver for me.
The exceptions to this are for items like LCD monitors, where I want to see if there are any dead pixels, or I want the chance to take the thing back if I'm not sure, then I will use a local store. |

| | | Re: DEATH of a camera shop Must admit to knowing most of my local Jessops staff by name, and the local indie too. Bought cameras from there including the KM 5D (also looking at the extended warranty - if it breaks should get a shiny new A100!). Shop around for memory cards though - their prices are awful! But always get my epson photo paper from there - £6.99 for 100 7x5 premium! |

| | | Re: DEATH of a camera shop I bought my first digital compact about 4 years ago, a few months later ( within warranty) the camera stoped working. I spent 2 days looking for the reciept but couldn't find it.
Luckily I had bought it from a local independent and could give them the date I bought it to within a week, they then went through there own records and found a record of my purchase. The camera was then sent off and fixed under warranty.
I can't see this happening with one of the big chain stores, needless to say I always go back there, independents offer a service that large stores just cannot match

Richard | When I bought my sony from my local jessops, I looked up the cheapest price I could find on the internet for the fz 20 and jessops matched it and maintained the price for the sony.
Someone did tell me that they no longer do this though..............Jon | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
