Kenfig nature reserve South Wales

Hello all, has anyone been to Kenfig pool recently? I was considering going to take pics of the waterfowl on there. The last time i was there they had permanent hides on, i think, the western bank. Dont know if they are still there? Would give me an opportunity, as its only 20 mins drive away, to try out my new Lens,Sigma 150-500. Also Margam park is on the way,another opportunity to try and get pics of the deer. So a chance to have a day out in the fresh air, all i want now is decent light to shoot in.

I can't comment of the nature reserves, but would like to hear of your results with this lens after the weekend. Specifically, if you think 500mm is truly 500mm and what f stop it becomes sharp at when used at 500mm; and whether the OS loses the lock after a second or two and wanders before locking back on. Most of the reviews seem to be on the very early lenses, some of which required rechipping so an upto date review would be great as I really fancy one of these lenses.

And I can't comment on the lens But Kenfig does still have 2 permenant hides that I'm aware of, at least they did this past spring. I hope you have some good results with your new lens!

Hi Brucep, Phew thats an awful lot to remember. I wont be getting the lens till Monday so will be later on in the week to test her, will post back my findings. Some of the things you mention i havent heard about, 500mm being true 500mm? I`ve heard of probs when coupled with canon 40D, which i have, but these were only on early serial No. Lens. Up to 1007001 i think. The lens has been out for 6 or 7 months now so i hope they`ve sorted the problems out!

Hi Dae, thanks for the info, its been a few years since i`ve been down to Kenfig pool so the confirmation of the hides still being there is appreciated. Hope the lens will now enable me to capture some decent wildlife shots at long last.
