| | | book recommendations? Hi there,
My boyfriend has an Olympus 550uz digital camera and is very keen on wildlife photography. I'd really like to buy him a book for his birthday on wildlife photography, does anyone have any suggestions on any that start from the beginning, but then perhaps become a little more advanced?
I have no knowledge at all in the area, so any advice gratefully received!
Thanks,
Lisa |

| | | Re: book recommendations? Hi and welcome to WAB. Have you checked the review section on the site. There are lots of great books on photography but I would recommend getting him a book token from Waterstones, Borders etc. and letting him choose one for himself.

| | | Re: book recommendations? I like books by John Shaw, but they are a bit dated in that they are pre-digital. But IMO they are still very good. Books by Fountain Press are often good too, such as the one by Paul Hicks on Insects. |

| | | Re: book recommendations? Hi Lisa, welcome to the comunity.
My best advise is to encourage him to join WAB if he is not already a member, and to keep asking questions and reading posts, the help he will get on this site is better than any book ever written on the subject and is freely given by, in my opinion, some of the best in the field. You can then buy him something useful for his birthday It has often been said that photography books are handy for leveling up uneven tripods and not much else

| | | Re: book recommendations? Hiya, I'll tread carefully here as I'm sure this is close to the rules on endorsing commercial things on this site but Andy Rouse's small book is absolutely fantastic. It's part of a three-part series published by one of the big two in the world of travel guides if you get my jist.
It's written in Andy-speak i.e. to the point and no techno babble.
Please PM me if you want more details. I've read a few wildlife photography guides and some really aren't that good. This one is. I can also give you details of a rather lovely chap that I just bought a small pamphlet-type book off called "Where to photograph wildlife in the UK". Very basic but tells you where and what equipment to use. It's a God-send to those of us that don't have three weeks to set up a hide and wait patiently for that shot in a thousand!
Sorry to be obscure but I know we're not supposed to be seen to be endorsing anything commercial on WAB. |
