| | | Hummingbird Hawkmoth This is the piccy i took today. My DSLR Olympus E300 was set on auto on full zoom on its std lense. What ISO / shutter speeds do you reccomend as I want to go back and get some gooduns.
Thanks

Kev | Try putting the camera in AV (aperture priority) mode, and setting a wide aperture such as f5.6 this will give you the fastest possible shutterspeed for the available light and also a shallow dof which will blur the background.
Ensure that the focus point is on the moth and fire the shutter - in burst mode if possible. If the E300 has it you might also want to set the focus mode to Servo or Tracking mode
ISO depends very much on the light but I would generally set it to 400 to get the best compromise between speed and noise.
hope this is helpful

| | | Re: Hummingbird Hawkmoth I assume by std lens you mean the 40-150mm (a great lens BTW ). I agree with eeyore - A mode, something around f5.6 (although you'll still find it pretty sharp at f4.5) and ISO 400.

I can't honestly say that these numbers mean anything to me though.

Kev | You'll need to get really close to the subject with a lens like that; it's a decent lens but is designed more for taking scenic photos but should still work if you can get close enough and if it will focus close enough.
