| | | Where to get photos printed? Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced place to get some photos printed - I thought I'd make a physical portfolio to show friends and family. I only have a bridge camera producing 6mp images (many cropped atleast slightly) so I thought get some printed at A6 or A5 size, but dont just want cheap rubbish prints from a supermarket machine |

I know most of the high street shops etc. all use machines that you print off yourself but I don't know if you have any control over the results.

| | | Re: Where to get photos printed? I print my own out at A4 and keep an album. My husband adjusts the pics he wants to keep so that he knows they will print out at A5 or 7x5 - whatever the accepted print output is from the shop. He also adds species names and occasionally commentary to some (esp the ones done for his mothers yearly album - a record of the hols we take her on). He has found as Words says that the physical print out is usually much darker than the image on screen - I find this too and we both 'lighten' the final image prior to printing and check it via the Print Preview button to see that its not gone too light. Ian then loads his to disk and drops it into the shop and collects a day or two later. They are not exceptional quality but they're not bad either and useful for showing around. I still prefer the impact of A4 and each print getting the 'Pauline Treatment' to get the very best I can out of my own printer despite the cost........

| | | Re: Where to get photos printed? I use Photobox they are very quick and as good or better quality than you will get from the best inkjet.
Register online with them and they will send you a calibration photo, use this to calibrate your monitor.
You get 50 free prints to start, all you pay is £1.50 delivery. |

| | | Re: Where to get photos printed? I've often used Photobox, I've found their quality and service to be exceptional. In fact I'm not sure how they do them so fast. I can load images up to them on a Sunday afternoon and within a couple of hours I get an email saying they're in the post! There's an added advantage with them, in that you get on-line extra storage for any images uploaded, and you don't have to print all the ones you upload so it's an extra bit of insurance for you better shots.
However, I'm now printing more of them myself, unless I want a larger than A4 print. I've just fitted a continuous inking system to my printer and it works a treat. It cuts costs dramatically, in your first order you get the equivalent of 20 sets of cartridges for less than the cost of 1 set of genuine ones. To my eyes the quality of the prints is a match for the manufactures inks, plus I never have to change a cartridge ever again. |
