| | | Selling by auction Hi,
I am looking to sell some equipment and was thinking about using ebay. I have bought this way but never sold. I was wondering if folk here have sold this way and if you had any advice or recommendations.
Thanks

Ensure that that describe the item fully. I usually overdescribe
Ensure that you communicate with the buyer. Let them know when you have posted, how long it is likely to be.
Ensure the picture of the item is a good one.
In the description, describe it history, its usage, where it has been stored and if there is any damage at all. Even the slightest blemish.
Ensure when you send, you get proof of postage so there can be no argument. I always send on a 'signature require' post. That way if they do not recieve it, it is much easier to claim for the loss.
Above all, be clear, honest and direct with your description.
Most of these tips have come from the wife. She has a seller rating of over 400 with 100% being positive. I have a meagre 94 with a 100% positive so I guess we are doing things fairly well.
Good luck with your sale. . . .

| | | Re: Selling by auction I agree, be honest about your goods and you should have a positive selling experience. I've sold lots of old stuff on there and bought loads, very good if you're careful, don't forget to use paypal tho, it has protective measures in place for you and the buyers

| | | Re: Selling by auction Use the very helpful advice already given and restrict your sales to the UK.
There is (potentially) far too much hassle selling abroad.
Always take care to ensure your item is fully insured in case it is not delivered. Most people don't realise that the seller is responsible to deliver the item to it's buyer, irrespective of what he/she states in their auction.
This is stated in the Ebay rules small-print. I only know this because a friend of mine had to fork out over £400 in refunds for an item which he sold/posted but did not arrive at it's destination. Even though the buyer did not chose to pay for insured delivery he had to refund the purchase price in full! |

| | | Re: Selling by auction Yes, it is a tricky one. I think a section on swaps/ items for sale would be great but understand the problems with it. If you had to be a Wild Member (or have made so many legit posts, therefore, etc.) it could solve people logging on and just using WAB to sell gear but I wouldn't want to tackle all the issues surrounding anything like this! So, I'm guessing it's far easier for Stu et al to just not have the problems in the first place. Good luck with your auction-selling though | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
