| | | Re: Macro Moments brilliant set of photos
Why are they not in the main Gallery?
Please check the Latin name for the bluebell as I think its the Spanish one.
I like the side view of the scarlet pimpernel the best

| | | Re: Macro Moments I will be taking some more soon - after all I haven't taken since ...well yesterday! I tell you this retirement is hard work!!
The scarlet pimpernel proved fascinating, I will be taking some more. I took some on f2.8 and some at f16 and I am very intersted at the effect the wide aperture gives.

| | | Re: Macro Moments Great shots Jon! Personally I struggle with the wide aperture shots as you have to make sure that you have exactly the right part of the flower in focus - I keep ending up with just a blurry mess! Yours are terrific. I look forward to see some more.

| | | Re: Macro Moments I don't mind at all Nick, they are very nice shots too. I agree it is really a change to use a smaller lens again.
I may be repeating myself here but I think this is a great tip for macro - use a monopod - I can't claim it was my idea - it was Graham who pointed it out. I was originally sceptical but it is a great idea. I have noticed that Manfrotto have an adjustable height model - all you do is squeeze the handle and it changes length, very quick - very good, and probably very expensive but will have to look!

| | | Re: Macro Moments A very good series of shots Jon and Nick.
I can see what your trying, varying the DOF and it works really well.
I wish you had the EXIF info on the shots so we could see exactly what settings you were using, then we could all nick them and have a go!
These are the types of shots I should really be trying, but I'm mentally limited, that is I haven't got an original though or artistic idea in my head!
I'm pleased you find the monopod useful, I certainly do. It helps greatly when trying to focus giving you a great deal of control simply by moving the pod forward and back.
I will use my Tripod at home when I'm doing greater than 1:1 macro, where the DOF is so small without a focus rack on a tripod you wouldn't stand a chance, but with "normal" macro, a monopod is a great tool. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
