Nothing remarkable about that spider species being able to see
UV rays - it is quite common in the animal kingdom, especially
in birds (which is how kestrels hunt by seeing the tracks left
by voles).
Just a shame that humans lost their UV sensitive retinal cells
in evolution !!! |

Hobjob - I don't think the reporters did a great job translating a bit of scientific research into easily digestible nuggets for non-scientists.
What is remarkable about this is that the UV (B) (NOT UV (A)) is used as a sexual selection aid, and that might only interest people interested in spiders in the first place, especially the jumping spiders' irridescent scales.
Anyhoo, there you go.
