| | | Web survey for wildlife photographers Besides being a wildlife photographer, I am also studying Wildlife Management at the University of Pretoria (South Africa). As part of this (research) master program, I need to conduct a scientific research project. My research is aimed at the management of games reserves in South Africa. The topic of my study is to analyse if there is an economic difference between managing a game reserve specifically for wildlife photography as compared to hunting. At the same time I would like to analyse what each of these options could contribute to employment and biodiversity.
As part of this research project, I have made a web survey for wildlife photographers intending to visit South Africa. Through this survey I would like to learn more about the profile of such photographers and the wishes and demands of these photographers with regards to their accomodation at the reserves.
I would like to invite all wildlife photographers intending to travel to South Africa to fill in this survey. Please only fill in the survey if you do intend to make such a trip, or have already made one. All information in the survey is completely anonymous.
The address of the web survey is: Websurvey Photographer
Regards and thanks in advance,

| | | Re: Web survey for wildlife photographers my feeling is that it is too long - i started filling it in got half way through and gave up - there are too many irrelevant options, what for example is the relevance of our brand of kit ? or for that matter our total yearly income ? (especially given that you also ask about how much we'd consider reasonable for the trip)

I don't see the relevance to most of the questions.
It looks to me like a survey commissioned by the SA Tourist board. |

I am sorry if the survey seems too long. I have tested it and most people can complete it within just a few minutes. The questions about income, education etc are used to make a profile of photographers. The same thing is done with the survey for hunters. That way I can analyse differences between these groups. And also if they are differences between photographers who have different interests. Basically it is just demographics for the analysis.
The question about the brand is just a "joke" to see if the brand used by a photographer, makes any difference in their answering. Most scientific research projects will have such a question.
About the question on who does this survey. It is NOT by any tourism board. I am a research student (MPhil) at the University of Pretoria enrolled in a Wildlife Management program. This research is absolutely not done for commercial purposes, only for science!
New entries are still very welcome. |

| | | Re: Web survey for wildlife photographers well ive just tried again to complete it - filled it all in bar salary and value of kit - which i feel strongly are no ones buisness but my own - they certainly dont influence the issue of hunting vs photography
and low and behold i cant submit it because " the first photoing option is not valid"
so much for that - you really need to add a prefer not to say option to your finance related questions.

1. The entire survey is anonymous. NO ONE knows the individual who enters the data.
2. For the research and analysis these demographic data about photographers are necessary. Otherwise it will be impossible to make scientifically based statements about differences between different types of photographers (or hunters).
If you do get a message saying that "the first xxxxx option is not valid", it simply means that you have not selected a valid option. It only says this if you keep the drop down box on the "-- Select here --" option instead of selecting one of the answers. |
