| | | Re: Lcd hoods - any good? My dad came up with a rather clever idea of using a section of kitchen or toilet roll tube which enables you to see the screen in bright light. You can fold it flat in a pocket of your camera bag and of course it costs nothing.

| | | Re: Lcd hoods - any good? I know in rally bright sun one can see nothing, but as I
wonder around I do see people oouring over their LCDs
for ages - what are they looking at?
Personally I take a glance at the overall composition
and a more meaningful glance at the histogram, and
move on.
If I am unsure of other features, I'd rather just take another half dozen photos than waste more time looking
at a tiny screen.

| | | Re: Lcd hoods - any good? Victorian times? A focusing cloth is still used today when shooting large format cameras, otherwise the image is just too feint on the ground glass focusing screen to see properly.

| | | Re: Lcd hoods - any good? A hat is a good bit of kit and mine is often used to shade the lens from direct sunlight. I often use a jacket or jumper as a focusing hood when I'm checking the depth of field preview mainly with macro as the viewfinder gets slightly darker. |

| | | Re: Lcd hoods - any good? I bought a slide viewer that is a simple plastic cone sort of thing, with a lens you stick your eye on (no, don't be clever) and a ground plastic... screen at the other. Bust the screen off, and then use the rest as a shade for the screen. Cost about £0.75, bit of magnification to aid focus. From Je*sop*. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
