book advice

Apologies if this topic has been covered before I did a thread search and couldn't find what I'm after.
Can anyone recommend a really basic digital photography book? One to help me with all the terms and various methods and stuff? Obviously getting out there and taking pics will be my main method of learning but a book to refer to would probably help me a lot?!!!

What camera have you got Gill?

I'm only asking as sometimes you can get books that will reflect on how to use your camera in particular.

Re: book advice

Couldn't find anything for that particular camera Gill.

There is "Digital Photography for Dummies".No offence meant by that.

Or as Alan suggested.......Andy Rouse is quite a photographer so i imagine his book would be pretty good.

Re: book advice

I'd highly recomend the Rouse book, it is principally concerned with DSLRs but has loads of useful advice that applies to all digital cameras too

My favourite tip out of the whole book is " don't clean your sensor with marmalade" I think there is a lesson in here for all of us !!

You can borrow my copy if you want to try before you buy, PM me an addres to send it too.

Thank you that's really kind! but it's not that expensive on amazon and it bumps me up into the free postage zone which is always a good thing!!!

Re: book advice

On the subject of books by the rousemeister I would also highly recommend the "Life in the wild - a wildlife photographers year" http://www.andyrouse.co.uk/shop_books.asp Among other things great seal shots

Further to my other posts if you join the photographers group on WAB, you will see that Stu et al are putting together a guide on here ( in fact you can probably access this without joining the group but I'm not sure where)

I recommend Digital Photo mag. It's packed with beginners bits and comes with Photoshop tutorial videos.
