| | | Re: Third-party goods and hire for lenses? Pete's post echoes my feelings on the low, low price for hiring the lens from these people. I don't see how the company doing the deal will make any profit with the cost/timescale involved.

..I'll send them an email with a few queries... still hanging on to the hope that this could be a bargain! |

The last thing you want to do is ignore anything. The possibilities of the lens being stolen are very real, especially if it is stored in a bag that screams "expensive camera!" to potential thieves. Things do go missing on-route, and I know of a professional photographer that labeled a flight case containing cameras etc. as "urine samples" to deter potential light-fingered baggage handlers. Just make sure you cover yourself.

| | | Re: Third-party goods and hire for lenses? i know mr rouse recomends flying with your camera and one lens in your hand luggage (not that this is always possible due to security alerts etc) - he also reccomends putting your flight case or camera bag inside an old army kit bag or similar to make it less attractive to theives.
i'd also take issue with their - obvoius reason - what they are saying is that if there insurances covered loss/theft people would make false reports and keep the gear - given that numerous other firms (including fixation, calumet et al) manage to insure loss / theft this seems deeply spurious.
you need their insurance to cover loss / theft because unless you have pro level insurance it is very unlikely that your own camera insurance will cover hired gear.
