| | | River Photos. I am hopefully going to a local river Saturday...any tips for photographing near water reflections etc. I know there are Kinfishers there seeing them will
be another matter!

A polarising filter will let you control the amount of reflected light on the water surface (must be circular if you shoot digitally), but that generally reduces reflections\glare. To shoot through the water, you'll maybe need to underexpose by up to a stop or so, as the water surface can confuse your camera.
If you want to shoot the reflections themselves, you might want to try manual focus. This isn't something I've done a lot of, but I think it's fairly starightforward.

I am yet to photograph lakes rivers etc. still finding my photography feet,

As zan has said use manual focus as af can sometimes be confused when photographing reflections,but you should find it pretty much straightforward.
Try experimenting with slow shutter speeds when photographing moving water you can get some nice results obviously you would need a tripod.
