I guess i should contact the postal repair peeps and get some rough prices to see if its financially worth doing or they are written off....would be a shame though as they have been great (until now...obviously) and would like to hang onto them as a spare pair of for friends to use on birding/wildlife trips.
Now how can i raise the £900 ish pounds for some Ultravids in green or some swarovski's?... | Have you any contents insurance Dan? I claimed on our house contents when our Canon binoculars broke. I had to pay the excess, but far cheaper than getting them repaired. |

| | | Re: Broken Binoculars. Dan,
If you have to find a replacement pair, try checking eBay before purchasing.
I bought a new pair of 8x42 Bushnell Trophy binos, (waterproof, camo, nitrogen filled), from there for a fraction of the retail cost.
If I recall correctly, I believe I paid around £35.00.

| | | Re: Broken Binoculars. Try searching for Monks optics, they readjusted my very wonky 1900 dated 10x30 bins for £40 and they are brill now. I thought it was a good price, and they were my Grandads so they are bit special. They may be a little long in the tooth, but they are so small.
I also have some own brand bins from 7dayshop, nitrogen filled etc, they were £17.50 new.
Heavy and fiddly focus, but better than nowt. |

| | | Re: Broken Binoculars. I had a bushnell night scope which I lost on a rainy night and by the morning was useless. It would have had to have been sent to Germany for repair as I got the scope off ebay and the "guarantee" was finished as it turned out the scope was old stock. This put me off getting another scope from ebay I bought a new one online...
I agree with other posts, buy some new binoculars, as with many things, getting them repaired unless you can do it yourself, is hardly worth it |

| | | Re: Broken Binoculars. Thanks everyone....as i said before i am planning this year to buy some proffesional level bins anyway....but...as this pair was £200 ish i thought it worth paying £30-£50 to get them repaired as a spare set?...
if its gonne be more than that ill just buy something quick until such time i can buy some decent bins.

| | | Re: Broken Binoculars. Viking optical, (l;inked with RSPB) have repaired two pairs for me.
One, some old admiralty bins, 10 x 50 that wre filthy and out of
alignment - £80
Pair of 5 yr old RSPB bins, which needed new eyepieces
(african dust "cleaned" with a hankie!) cost about £60
Very efficient, but I could deliver and collect as I live close. |
