| | | Gallery Pictures. I'm wondering if its possible to have a comment put in the Gallery uploads which would identify images that where taken some time ago. So people viewing images will be able to tell if the image shown are of subject that are currently emerging. it would also assist if the general location info was available.
Thoughts....
Regards

| | | Re: Gallery Pictures. If I understand your question correctly, there is a box between the Keywords boxes which is for this purpose. Just click and type in anything relevant to the image. Date, Time, Weather, Location, Exactly what the creature was doing, Any special problems getting the photo, Even what you had for dinner. It's upto you what you think would be important for others to know.
Hope this helps - but I might have got hold of the wrong end of the stick, once again! |

| | | Re: Gallery Pictures. Hi Geoff
I think I've not explained myself properly. I use the Gallery as I suppose do a lot of others amongst other things to see what is about and give me an idea of what to look out for. Especially for insects and fungi in my case. For example there is an image of a Small Red-Eyed Damselfly in the Gallery at present.
Sometimes its hard to know if something posted by someone else is a recent image or one from their archives.
Hope this makes my question clearer.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
The Small Red-Eyed Damselfly images uploaded today are mine.
The pics were taken in July 2006, those Damselflies tend to be around from mid June through to late September.
I notice that you're based in Suffolk, so were the Damselflies!
I hope this helps.

| | | Re: Gallery Pictures. I think I understand what Steve is asking, for a specific field for the date that the image was taken. I always try and put the date if it's not current in the description. If there was a specific field, it would make it clearer when searching. The only problem may be to get users to fill it in! |

file name - I find this easier to work with, as copies, backups, re-edits, keep changing the file date.
So a file named MinsM_15Feb08_1234.jpg
tells me all I need to know about the photo (MinsM = Minsmere), and it then gets filed in a folder by species, and that info may get added to the exif dat too, but not often as I am too idle.
To do the renaming I use a brilliant free proggie called "rename".
I get into far fewer muddles since adopting this system, though my "unsorted" directory is still huge
Though downloads into this section go into directories with date and place / occasion etc. |

That's what I was looking for, just something that let me know that subject has started to appear so I could keep an eye open for it.

SteveHL | Another way to do this may be to get a decent book or two on the subjects you are interested in. For example, I have the collins complete british insects by michael chinery, this tells you when particular subjects are up and about, such as damsel and dragon flies specimens.
