| | | Re: Keeping your photographs just like everyone else this is also a problem for me, i usually take a few gigs of photos every week, sometimes much more sometimes less. I have 2 - 500gb and 1 - 80gb (old faithful ) external drives but all the data thats on them is also burned to dvd since in my experience hard disk drives (internal or external) are not very reliable. Just before christmas my 320gb external drive (which was full to the brim) decided to stop working, it was a mammoth task to find/copy everything back to new drive but i was seriously relieved that i go through the hassle of ripping everything to dvd before transferring to external drive for general storage and quick access. |

| | | Re: Keeping your photographs Hi,I must be a slacker,I don`t take nothing like the amount of photos alot of you peeps are talking about, maybe a 200 odd some weekends It would seem no back up system is full proof,I have heard after so many years even DVDs can lose data, perhaps even less if not looked after.I have seen advertised some Archive disks, made especially for storing photos, though how much if any better these are,I don`t know.I currently have most of my photos on DVD,Though I still havn`t learnt, past experince has tort me that getting and keeping your images organised, saves masses of time later. |

| | | Re: Keeping your photographs I might have missed something but I have not seen any mention of on-line storage. Does anybody use this method? Is it a real option or does it depend on the quantity of data you are dealing with?

Vince | You'd need a superfast connection (commercial not domestic) and genuinely unlimited bandwidth if you are dealing with the kind of volumes here. I stick to DVDs, about 3 a fortnight on average. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
