| | | Through the window +converter I have a perch set up with a feeder in the garden not far from one of my windows. I'm having real trouble getting the birds to come to it when the window is open. When the window is shut they love it, taunting me me by lining up to have their picture taken, dancing around etc...you know how it is. As soon as the window is open they are gone again.....
Sooo..rather than let them get away with it I thought I'd have a bash at taking pictures through the double glazing. As I only have a 300mm lense I also had a 1.4 converter attached. I appreciate these arent exactly top quality but I think it goes to show that in the right light you can get ok results in such a situation.
Pictures taken on a D50, sigma 70-300 with a Kenko 1.4 DG Pro converter, tripod used, no flash (obviously ) . Also pushed them through neat image to compensate for ISO400 used.
Any comments or tips for improving?
Thanks for looking

| | | Re: Through the window +converter I'd say those shots are very good considering you're shooting through double glazing and a 1.4 converter. Nice work.

Have you tried covering the window opening with some camo or scrim net? It does the trick for me in a hide that I visit which is very close to the water. I just cover the opening and anything that swims past doesn't seem to notice me. |

| | | Re: Through the window +converter Very nice images. Surprising how good some shots are, when taken through double glazed windows. Always worth a try. I have taken several this way including a Sparrow Hawk and Woodpeckers.

Don't give up on opening the window. In time the birds will get used to you. I had the same problem when I first started opening the bedroom window to photograph at my feeding station.
Wear some inconspicuous darkish clothing and sit as still as possible. The birds will soon learn you are no threat. I can even use flash on mine without spooking them after about four months of them getting used to me.

| | | Re: Through the window +converter Lovely shots. It just goes to show, you spend a fortune on expensive lenses, and then you get shots like this through double glazing, plus a 1.4X TC!! I can't see much evidence of any problem with taking them through the windows.Well done! |

| | | Re: Through the window +converter Great stuff. Definitely goes to show what is possible. I often see a bird in the garden and have to shoot through the windows to get the shot rather than miss it altogether. Nice to know it is possible to get such results! I've not had such great results yet so it is motivating to see how it can be done! Thanks for sharing |

| | | Re: Through the window +converter Today has been very dull and foggy around the Forth Valley so I didn't think I would get any shots today. Couldn't believe my luck when a Sparrowhawk landed on a tree in the garden. So it was through the double glazed bedroom window or nothing. I have uploaded the results on 'the gallery'.
As I said earlier 'always worth a try'!

| | | Re: Through the window +converter Think I will have to give my windows a really good clean and try again! I have found that using a tripod inside a slightly open window does work if you leave time for the birds to get acustomed to it, stand back at bit and move slowly. Never look directly at the birds. |
