| | | 1.4x Tele Converter Evening All,
I am looking to get a 1.4x Tele Converter for my Sigma 170-500mm Lens...I am looking to spend around 100-150 quid. Does anybody know if the Sigma 1.4x EX APO DG Tele Converter is compatible as it does not list it in the lenses on several websites I have visited.
Also what others would you recommend? Any ideas considered...

Cheers Jacob | Kenko 300 pro. Just as good in my opinion and a lot cheaper. Not sure I'd recommend using any TC with the 170-500mm though. |

I recently bought the Kenro convertor for use on my Sig 170-500 and it is virtually unusable only in the brightest of conditions, and then it's not acceptable. I paid 129 GBP for mine. I wish I'd read this thread first!

| | | Re: 1.4x Tele Converter You are correct in that Sigma do not list the Sigma APO Tele Converters as suitable for use with the Sigma 170-500mm Lens, this could be due to the design of the rear element in the lens.
If you really want to experiment with a TC then the Kenko Pro 300 will probably fit ok. You can get the Kenko 1.4x from URGALAXY on ebay for circa £60 and takes 3-4 days to arrive.
Whether AF will work is a bit hit and miss, the Kenko converters don't seem to report back to the camera, Exif data still shows the original lens focal length and maximum aperature when wide open unlike the Canon converter.
In good light and low ISO settings the AF works reasonably well on my Canon lenses and 30D but in poor lighting conditions it just hunts which can be frustrating and I have to resort to MF.
With regard to image quality I have found there to be little degradation in good lighting conditions but with higher ISO settings the image quality is very poor.
