| | | Re: New Sigma 500mm zoom Cheers for that Jon, that's most interesting. So the new Bigma is 150-500mm and has OS WANTWANTWANT. It's a bit longer and a bit heavier, has an extra element, with one less group.
I want to know the price.
Just read this! "Sigma’s original OS (Optical Stabiliser) function offers the equivalent of using a shutter speed approximately four stops faster."

No price listed as yet (even in the USA) Sigma - Lenses
There may well be a good few Bigmas to be had soon....

| | | Re: New Sigma 500mm zoom Yes that's right Nick I got the original info from another very well known photographic web site
The price of £16k was correct which is a bit ridiculous but I thought folk may be genuinely interested in the 150 - 500mm with four stops IS

| | | Re: New Sigma 500mm zoom Yeah, that's excellent. If it's alot more than the 50-500mm, then I might just really bite the bullet and save for it. I'm aware that the 50-500 is good for dragonflies and butterflies, but at what focal length is this possible? will the missing 100mm from the near end of the lens be a great loss? |

Jon | I'm not so sure. I've never felt the need for OS, it's not something that bothers me or causes me to lose many shots. What I would have been excited about would have been faster glass. It's still an F6.3 lens, no matter how good the OS is. It wont allow any more light into the camera to allow for FASTER shutter speeds. That's just fine for static objects, but not much help for fast moving subjects such as birds.
I'm having doubts about my choice of the Sigma 120-300mm, after reading a review which was as the saying goes, condemned by faint praise!
I'm not sure I'd be bothered to spend extra for this one, UNLESS there's a marked improvement in the overall sharpness of it, which of cause may be true as they've brought it near enough into line with the ideal zoom 3 to 1 ratio.
I'll have to wait for the reviews to start, whenever that may be. |

I tend to use around the 200-300mm. Read what I've said above though! |
