Although all is (probably) not lost, there is a moral to the tale, here. Upload from the card to the computer before considering any deletions: then back-up those files to another hard drive or maybe a CD/DVD disc. Assessing images using the camera monitor screen is not a good practice, as it will not give an accurate representation of what you actually have on the memory card. Edit all you images using the screen on your computer.
Still, as cited above, you will more than likely recover all your images using the recommended methods: but as you say, you are willing to learn!

Apparently the grey is listed as one of the 100 most invasive species on the planet by the UN.
One ray of hope is they may not be able to compete with the reds in the north of Scotland where the source of food differs (smaller less nutritious seeds) but the danger of course is squirrelpox where the two species meet.
There are 3 million greys here now as opposed to 160,00 reds.
Pretty dire isn't it.

| | | Re: Gutted The trouble is man has change the planet and enviroment to suit his self, natural habitat for many species has declined, but for other species they have thrived and indeed profited living in mans enviroment. Foxes can be seen walking up and down my street and no doubt many other streets, corvids, Gulls, rats and Grey squirels, live round our homes, parks and refuse tips. My parents have a large garden which plenty of birds nest in the season, my mum is often devasted when the magpies, crows and squirels visit and leave carnage in their wake. Two doors up the road from me a fox killed the childrens pet rabbits in broad daylight. I am not one for feeding foxes in back gardens. Man has cocked up the status Quo, We will have to do something before many species disapear for good. This watership down mentality has got to giveway to a more realistic overall view. Man has to turn the balance back if we like it or not.

Colin

| | | Re: Gutted Its bit worrying Peregrine's hardley ever take rats, they prey on feathered quarry. I bet that was one sick rat staggering around full of poison. Not sure how the Derby Peregrines did in 2007 a funny feeling they failed to fledge all the young off

| | | Re: Gutted For Nikon users there is a free bit of software called 'Nikon Transfer'. It is easy to set things up, and as soon as it detects a card being plugged it will download your images, rename them, make folders as per your settings and also download them to a backup folder. I always test a few NEFs from each of the two folders (stored on two separate hard drives) before formatting the card. I then have all of my keepers as both Nefs and Tiffs (easier to send to clients and run off prints) on three individual hard drives. In total I have five hard drives, two 'working' drives with temporary folders for cards being downloaded and sorted. The remaining three hard drive hold the Nefs with any Raw adjustments made and the Tiffs. |

Sandisk's rescue pro worked for me the one time I did the same! It is bundled with their extreme series of cards.
