Having been a good boy all last year Santa very kindly brought me a telescope for Christmas, which I've since augmented with an adapter to take a digital camera:
Despite being quite modestly priced the scope seems well made and gives a nice bright, sharp image. It's described as a
Nipon LV780.The eyepiece zooms from 26 to 78 times magnification so distant object can suddenly appear very close. You have to be careful about shake though, and I usually use it with a tripod or monopod.
The camera adapter was a real bargain. I bought it on
Ebay and at $40 delivered it was a steal! The main part is cast alloy with a plastic camera plate. It clamps around the eyepiece of the scope and you can adjust the position of the camera in three directions to get the best alignment.
I've brought my trusty old Nikon Coolpix 4300 out of retirement to use with it, but I need to buy a couple of new batteries for it as the old ones are about done in.
