| | | Got my first "L" :) Hi folks,
My 70-200 f4 L arrived this morning so naturally it's raining but I did manage this shot from the back door of a couple of blackbirds. The lens was a bargain @ £400 inc. delivery. |

| | | Re: Got my first "L" :) an awful lot of what you just wrote might as well be latvian to me!!! but the photograph is superb and the rain drops actually add to it I think.
You lot are right tempting me to get myself to a digital SLR photography course - just so I know what you're on about!!!! |

Yes it's a Canon, the "L" range are the pro lenses and the 70-200 f4 is the cheapest of the bunch but a great little walkaround lens. If anyone is interested in getting Canon glass cheap drop me a PM and I'll give you the details of the guy I used. He sells on ebay but will deal direct to avoid the fees - I saved £40 off his ebay price that way and about £100 off UK prices.
Now if only it would stop raining |

See to me L is shorthand for Lapwing (well L. if you want to be precise). and 70-200 means you're rubbish at counting them and F4 well that's something to do with genetics and cross breeding....
It's a whole other world..... |

It's a whole other world..... | As Andy has stated 'L' is canons pro range of 'glass' (lenses), the 70-200 bit is the focal range, 70mm-200mm is a zoom lens and if someone quoted just a single number then it means the lens is fixed at that range.
The f4 bit is the lenses minimum aperture (how much light it lets in) the smaller that number the 'faster' the lens...... god i wish I never started now would you like me to go on? |

| | | Re: Got my first "L" :) OK the f4 bit you can change manually, this will then decrease the shutter speed. for example f4 at 1/250 sec at iso200 (iso = film speed lower number better image quality) change the f4 to f5.6 and the shutter speed becomes 1/125 sec at iso 200. This is called 1 stop. Or you could change the iso to 100 and you have f4 at 1/125 sec, also 1 stop difference...... there are many combinations but essentially you need good light..... hope this helps or do you need more? |

| | | Re: Got my first "L" :) Sell the kids, hire the wife out, remortgage the house... do what ever it takes and buy 'L' glassware. There is no alternative btw remortgaging the house is about right for the 600mm f4 or 400mm f2.8 lol
even sandal wearing nikonites will be converted lmao |

| | | Re: Got my first "L" :) I think the Sigma EX range has a lot to offer, the 150mm macro is outstandingly good and I seriously considered the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 but the Canon won simply because of weight. The problem is there's no turning back once you've seen the difference between consumer and pro glass.
I just need something to cover the wide end now and I'll be happy (for a while at least) with 3 lenses plus a 1.4x tc for the occasional extra reach. |

| | | Re: Got my first "L" :) I had the chance to borrow a Canon 400mm L F4 from Digi (Come back...your sorely missed!!)
And I have to admit it was a superb lens..hardly had a bad shot out of it..Although I like my Bigma, I've not managed the quality (yet!) of that L glass. |

5D or L glass hmmm..... that is the question | Go for the L glass then save for the 5d! Must admit to not missing full frame at all, unless you do a lot of wide angle stuff | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
