I am a complete photography amateur and don't know too much.
Basically what I am after is something with a decent zoom, good picture quality and the ability to capture action shots without blurring (quick shutter speed?) and decent night time photos.
So to sum up what I am asking, what makes/models do you guys recommend? And also can digital cameras now compete in the quality stakes?
Thankyou for your help! | Adam you may find this link useful, it is old but some good reading: http://www.wildthingsphoto.com/tips/wltip.htm

| | | Re: Basic Camera Question i am a firm believer that a dslr is the way to go as in my opinion they are so much more flexible and if you are in it for the long term the cost will not be that bad . i started with second hand d30 and worked up ,you can get some good second hand items at the moment .try mxv in Sussex . some compacts and bridge cameras have a noise issue with the smaller ccd particularly the 8 meg range .if you would like i could recommend a few items and suppliers .please contact me if i can be of any help |

| | | Re: Basic Camera Question I think DSLR Canon 350d, Nikon D50, buy a body and the lenses YOU need for your interests
e.g macro or long telephoto as mk43 suggests
